My name is Lambert Heller. I'm a librarian involved with the project NOA (Nachnutzung von Open-Access-Abbildungen / Reuse of open access media), a joint project of German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) and University of Aplied Science Hannover (HsH). It started in December 2016. We harvest scholarly journals and integrate openly accessible scientific figures (and, if possible, articles) into Wikimedia projects: Article texts are saved on Wikisource, images on Wikimedia Commons, and metadata in Wikidata. We aim to classify the figures, in order to make them discoverable and to help people to make use of them, e.g. to incorporate them into matching Wikipedia articles, or into their slide set for college class.
